Second letter of complaint in the mail.

Hope you get a more supportive response this time.
Is the gearbox rattle that bad? On a scale of 1 to 10 where would you rate the noise?

Sorry to press you on this, but could there be a component of engine noise? Maybe not.
3 is still a bit high but 5 is totally unacceptable even if happens sometimes.
BTW: Is the shift good?

Garbox works ok, gearbox is smooth, more worried about lifespan really.  If it rattles surely thats metal on metal, gotta be wearing slowly.  The thing thats really bad is that it doesn't do it from cold. i.e the metal must be expanding which turns into a rattle.  I have had three people tell me there manual GTD does it too.

The reasons for asking was that I had a bit of a rattle. But I am really very, very fussy. Sickeningly so.
I used the Boron Silk Gearbox treatment and after just 200 miles there is no rattle at any time.
The whole engine/gearbox system is now really quiet both iside and outside and super smooth to boot. Or maybe it has just run-in very nicely. I'll never know, but it is perfect now. Thank the stars.

Not an oil change. It's just an additive of 10% of the total gearbox oil capacity. VW removed 230 ml of gearbox oil (gearbox oil capacity 2.3 litres) and replaced it with 230 ml of Boron Silk. They were happy to do this and said it would not affect my warranty. I've got a good dealership.

Any idea of the viscosity of the gearbox oil?

Funny you should ask as I tried to get this figure from VW service and parts and they could not tell me! However, the techie said that the Boron Silk would not affect the viscosity in any way and would mix perfectly.
