If it alarms will it switch its self off or will it just carry on untill the battery goes flat ?,seems to alarm for 30 secs then stop for a couple of secs then alarm again,ive not had chance to leave it to see what happens because it has always been in the middle of the night.once i reset it with the keys all is fine

Have you tried swirching off the ultrasonics with the button on the door pillar to make sure thats what is setting it off and not a door/bonnet/hatch switch fault.

Its only happened 3 times in a year each time at night when the weather has been calm and no one is anywhere near the car,its one of those annoying intermittent faults im going to get them to look at it when it goes in for its first service i was just a little concerned it might do it when im not around to reset it and carry on untill the battery goes flat.Should`nt it reset its self if there is nothing wrong ?

Computer says no what a surprise they have turned the internal sensors down to 90%.
P.s i think Vw dealers new catchphrase is" if that does not work we will email Vw to see what they recommend " they have said this twice to me now for two different intermittent problems

The reason i posted to try with the sensors off is it may not be the sensors and be one of the switches. (doors,boot,bonnet)
If you have ever seen the rear of a door switch, What use to happen was that water would run down the door pillar and create a circuit across the contacts of the switch body. This would trigger an alarm. Its also known for intermittent faults in the past with bonnet switches on VW.

I had one false alarm so far which is more than I had the last four years with the MK V. Even that one time it p&ssed me off so I know how you all feel.

BTW are you compelled to wear the alarm stickers (insurancewise) I would love to peel it off (behind the rear window under the wiper).....and can I use a fluid there which does not effect the heating.

I agree it could be one of many things it does not help with it being a very intermittent problem,the last time it happened i took it in less than a week later and i had only used the car twice inbetween the alarm going off and the dealer plugging it in,the computer system can not be up to much if it had not stored any information in that short time. Its not a major problem just a little annoying in the middle of the night and would be more of a problem if no one was around to reset it.

Silly question this I suppose but here goes.  I always lock the car with the remote pressing just the once however when I have the dog with me which is much of the time I am unable to lock the car as the movement sets off the alarm.

I have tried to lift up the little latch by the door handle but it will not shift, so anyone know how I can lock my car bypassing the alarm, I guess I've been lucky so far that no one has broken in.
