Gave the TDI a proper clean today....
« on: 26 April 2010, 12:26 »
Bought some products from waxamomo last week and finally got time this morning to give them a go. The products I got were:

  • Megs Quik Detailing Kit
  • Dodo Juice Born To Be Mild Shampoo
  • Dodo Juice Light Fantastic Wax
  • Megs Soft Foam Applicators

So after reading bits and pieces on here I decided on these products to hopefully bring my paintwork alive again. The main problem with my paintwork is little black spots all over it which I'm guessing are spots of tar that have built up over the 150k miles that my car has done. I started off giving the car a good rinse off as I think it had some of that volcanic ash on it from when it rained saturday morning. I then washed it with the Born To Be Mild and dried it off.

At this point I was quite excited as I was going to us the magical claying kit that I had read so much about. I was hoping it was going to remove all the tar spots. Now I don't know if I was doing something wrong but the clay was a slight disappointment for me. Don't get me wrong, the bits of the car with out tar spots came up lovely and smooth but it just didn't seem tough enough to remove the tar spots. I found my mircofibre towel removed them better with a bit of elbow grease. Was I under the wrong impression of the clay? Does it not remove tar spots or does the kit I have come with a soft clay that ain't tough enough for the spots?

As I said tho the rest of the car was looking and feeling lovely. I then gave her another wash and dried her thoroughly. Then was the turn of the Light Fantastic wax and soft foam applicators. Loved using both of these! The applicators applied a nice even layer of the wax. The wax itself smelt amazing  and went on really easy. Was also a joy to buff of, compared to the Mer polish I had only used up until today.

So all in all I was pleased with my purchases. I just need to know a bit about my problems with the clay kit and also what I can use to remove the tar spots.

PICTURE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you notice the dodgy finish of my rear passenger door in the photo above? I think it's been resprayed before I got it and not to a very good standard.

And now examples of the tar on the bumper:

word

good effort

yeah... your door needs a machine polish, with any luck this will improve the finish

the tar spots you need to treat with tar remover.. can highly recommend autosmart tardis. spray on, let soak and then remove with minimal/no elbow grease

yep... thats it... remember though that it is only 500ml you are getting and not the 5L container that they are showing (which is a bit naughty)

Yeah, I looked about on ebay after finding that one and people seem to buy the big 5L one and then use it to sell smaller quantities to ppl. Is it worth me getting 5L? Seems like a lot. Waxamomo has this one http://www.waxamomo.co.uk/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=284. Is it any good?

5L takes me a while to get through so 500ml will probably be enough for you

i haven't used the valet pro one so can't comment on it

Cool, seeing as you speak to highly of the tardis I'm going to order some now. I'll need to get a spray bottle separate yeah? Just use an old one form under the sink if I do.

should be fine... means you'll use less and it'll spread more evenly
