Is my red turbo pipe ok?
« on: 25 April 2010, 22:26 »
Right so I was under the car today, trying to sort out the plastic undertray and I thought i'd have a look at the red turbo pipe behind the front bumper on the drivers side.
It's looks a right mess with what looks like oil on it, tried to see if it was loose and coming away but seems pretty firm in place, anyhow you guys will know more than me looking at the folling pic, let me know if it looks ok or is there something to be worries about?
Also whilst looking at this pipe I noticed this other metal pipe that also had oil on it.

Anyway let the advice and info roll :)

All advice and info is much appreciated.

it could be at some point that the pipe has come off and blown oil over it or it could be a leak from the intercooler side of the pancake pipe

I'd wash off as much as you can and monitor it over the next couple of weeks

If the oil returns then its possible you have a small boost leak in that area - might be as simple as a perished o-ring

It's feeling like i'm getting closer to my MPG problem fingers crossed.

I've cleaned it up and will check again after work today and over the next week or so, see what happens as when i looked at the pipe the oil looked quite fresh and in some places it was built up ready to drop off like rain on a window sill.

Bloody boost leaks are a right pain in the crack to find.
In relation to this pipe where is the pancake pipe and what does it look like exactly?

Follow the red pipe from the turbo and where its connected is your pancake pipe

It runs along the drivers wheel arch

So I need to take the wheels arch lining out to view it? I've tried looking from the top but can;t see fook all as the bay is packed on the left hand side and from the drivers front wheel it just has the lining so I assume the lining needs to be removed.

nope no need to remove it; just turn the wheel to right full lock   You'll find it caked in mud and crap no doubt!

I swear i've looked in that gap on a full right lock turn.

Damn I prob need to go spec savers

So i'll full lock to the right and there should be a mucky pipe that may have leakage on it. I take it it's a flat looking pipe?

Rhyso i'm really sorry for the dumb questions but I swear I didn't see a pipe there when looking yesterday from the drivers side.

Cool thanks for the pic mate makes life so much easier, so i'm looking to see if there is any leakage on that pipe and generally the state of it and see if I can find a boost leak on it.

Yep - most common problem is the lugs were away and or the o-ring inside persishes.  Also the clips stretch allowing for movement

Might be worth renewing the clips and o-rings whilst you got it apart - save doing the job twice   Should be nor more than a few quid from the dealers for them
