it's a joke the way that dealer seems to have tried to just cover up the problem as cheaply as possible.

it's a shame that we do all seem to have trouble finding the good guys out there and why we end up travelling miles to see the few of them

this is were i am lucky, the local garage round the corner from me is fairly good, the guy knows what he's doing and doesnt overcharge :o

And it's five minute walk from my house

I work in the industry, and have had some dealings with VW HQ. I would complain immediately and insist that VW pay for a Hire Car, a Golf, if you have a Golf - seems fair, whilst yours is in the bodyshop. VW own the Daily Rental company Europcar, so it's wooden dollars to them.

I would insist on the following;

Admission of liability in writing.
Commitment to rectify the car to YOUR satisfaction.
A hire car (Golf) whilst yours is in the 'shop.
A letter of apology.
Some form of compansation for your inconvenience.

They are good at customer service at HQ in Milton Keynes, but keep a log of what has happened, who said what and when - get a name from everybody you spoke to and who is involved.

GOOD LUCK!

TC.

Wherever I end up working in the country, one of the first things I do is find a local back street specialist, suggested by local VW enthusiasts. A good mechanic is worth his weight in gold.

Its true. I take my car to a little old man who has a small garage / shed thing round the back of the local GSF. Everyone who about him says "do you trust a shady guy like that with your car? id take it to a dealership" but it seems that little old men with 30+ years of experence are better than so called "trained Professional Dealership staff"

after experience i trust a specialist more than the monkeys at the stealership..

the stealership doesnt only do maintenance work.. they arent interested in "old cars".. they already fleece the people who buy new cars of enough to keep them going..

this means they arent as interested in pleasing you as a specialist outfit.

Used to have a '97 MK3 16v GTI 3dr in 'Black Magic'... now have a '55 Civic Type-S...

^Ditto.

I now do a 90 mile round trip to a specialist who I know I can trust 100%, cos every time I have gone to a dealer with my car and the other halfs they have been sh*t

I know my local vw body shop very well and some of the storys and car's you won't beleive.
Brand new cars in there before they are delivered to a customer, new vw's have very thin paint so thin that it has been completly missing in places so car has been in for a panel of 2 to be painted etc....
