As topic really - successful installation of F900bt (Pioneer), however a few of the functions are greyed out because I haven't fitted the handbrake cable.

Question is this - where/how do I access the handbrake cable on my MK5 Golf?

Thanks in advance,

Dan

You can attach it straight to earth to bypass the lock however watching videos whilst your driving/car is moving is illegal and I dont condone it :P

Not actually bothered about watching movies tbh - but the wire needs to be connected in order to gain access to all of the functions.

did you not fit the vw canbus adapter as that has the handbrake wire connection in it
also if you connect it to the handbrake then you will not be able to make any adjustments to the navigation either
to get to the handbrake wire is a mission so just connect it to the black earth wire on the stereo and it will all work fine

Thx Troublestarter - ended up with a bit of a bargain from a mk5 user over on mk5golfgti.co.uk

Poor chap had his F900 stolen, rendering his canbus adapter useless.

The adapter is the CA-R-PI.221

I've trawled the net for instructions  - found some (www.pioneer.eu/files/fr/CA-R-PI221_R40652.pdf), and whilst there is provision for VSS etc, no provision for handbrake.

I *think* I saw the handbrake wire on an investigation, and WHOLLY support your advice about it being a mission!!! LOL!!!

I'll have a look at the black earth today then

My understanding is that the "greyed" out options (nav and system settings) are part of Pioneer's "safety" setup (ie you're not allowed to mess whilst driving!) - once this is grounded properly  I'll hopefully have access to these menus.

I'll post pics etc up after wards, but the BIG advantage of this unit is the sound is SOOOO much better - VW should be shot for providing that RCD300!!!

Have the 900bt installed in my motor and boy is it fun, will be honest tad slow on start up but apart from that all fine and dandy! DVDs dont sound too bad either - pretty good surround sound!
If you cant find it......Grind it
