HELP!!! Chattering from exhaust system at certain revs

I'll pop into my dealership at some stage in a week or two for them to have a listen. Maybe, after a silky smooth Honda Type R engine, this one sounds a bit agricultural on idle.

Depends what type of rattle. thump thump = its the gas canister so ok. Knock knock = not fine. tick tick normal. Deisel like start up noise is normal as its a high compression forced induction motor.

I found two links with the sound. It's a raspy sound when accelerating between 2400 and 3000 rpm. After 3000 rpm the sound goes away. Can someone say if this is normal?

Thats the very noise. Great vids so thank you. I had a go of another GTI on day at the garage and it was alot worse than mine. Mine has actually started to dull down. I am predicting a recall due to this noise because at the moment VW say there is no fix or problem but lets be honest it isn't a normal noise and it seems to be a regular thing getting. Wait and see.

Is there really no one else who has this vague "shshshsh"-metallic wastegate sound when accelerating between 2400-3000 rpm? I don't know if I should bring it to the dealer or if it's normal for the GTI.

I've been tracking this issue online for months now as I have this wastegate rattle in my GTI. I took it to my dealer and received the same response as everyone else.

Through this forum and others in the US and Oz we might be able to collect hundreds of us together and directly petition VW for the recall (apparently it can affect all 2.0TSI engines)

As you can see I'm new to this forum, does anyone know how we could get a permanent thread on the homepage to collect names?

how many miles have you got on your GTI ?....On both my mk 6 GTIs, that noise started to quieten down a bit after 3k miles...at the moment I hardly notice it anymore. Although that may be partly down to getting used to it.

I just broke 1k miles. We'll see if it gets better but I doubt it. I think I'm starting to get used to it though.

I've done 5,600 miles and still as bad as ever. If you google 'TSi wastegate rattle' you'll find it happens on this engine in lots of VW group cars including Skodas, Sciroccos, Tourans etc. I reckon if we could pull together all those people into one petition we could get VW to consider a recall...no idea who has the time to do that kind of thing though.
