CD Player Doesnt Come On When Ignition Is On

Ok so when my Gti isnt on and the ignition is off the cd player runs and when the key is at the 1st click the cd player runs then as soon as the ignition is on.....Nothing, i dont have a clue what it could be, any help out there would be great....

sounds like the ignition live is connected to the wrong wire at the ignition switch
if someone has run a cable from the thin brown/red wire at the ignition switch to the red ignition live of the stereo theres your problem it needs to be connected to the black wire at the ignition switch instead

How do i sort that out then? get into the ignition barrel?

you don't need to get into the barrel there is a large black plug on the end of it and it can be found there
you can even find it in the loom coming from the steering column heading towards the fuse box
