ive got dunlop sport maxx, there ok but only had the car a couple of months, i think the conti 3's i had on my previous motor were better.

Yea got them on the MK6 now and I have to say they are performing well on the car!! I know I have slagged them off on this forum, but I think its time to eat my words
When your dunlops get to about 50% wear. Trust me , you will want to launch them off Dock head steve.

Yes I think your right there, that was the issue I had with them last year once they got a bit worn down started wheel spining a lot!! But then put erm on the back. I then bought the GYf1's last summer which wrere very good, but struggeld in the winter!! I think ive made my point about GYf1's on this forum? Horses for course's each to there own???

I do know this , i wont be useing those tyres again or risking putting cheep tyres on a performance car, no sense in that, I value life to much!!

ive just ordered a set of these should be with me tomorrow in time for santa pod on sunday

http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m12b0s669p4072

bit more track orientated but perfectly legal on the road and come in the correct mk5 gti fitment xl rated too and at a reasonable price of £115 a corner also the tread pattern looks alot more standing water friendly than other sticky road tryes

so to the OP if your after a high performance tyre and your not too concerned on tread wear these look ideal

reviews sound very promising, should no myself if there any good on sunday

so does steve not like the goodyear's then?

which tyres have you got? The mystery is killing me?? Ha ha ha, no the gyf1 are very good in the summer!! They are not great all round tyre IMHO. There are better tyres out there, but cost more , but I wouldn't put my life at risk again through crap tyres in winter? This is what happened to me through those tyres, lost control of the ed30 was doing 25mph coming up to jct, and the car didn't stop very lucky no one hit me on ether side!! Little bit of snow on the ground that's what happens? Hope my reasons are good enough and lerning curve for some on the forum! Enjoy steve

Goodyear do state they are Summer tyres Not suitable for under 6°c
I run them during the snow last year and managed to get to work and back (100 miles) fine everyday. just adjusted my driving to suit the conditions
I often wonder why people never expect sarcastic comments from me - they're the only reason I speak...

It would be intresting to hear your views on those? How long they last & grip? For me its got to be a proven brand make tyres, cost dosn't come in to it when it involves tyres!! I like tread patten on them though

same here steve,

i normally go for the michelin ps2's but just worn out my fronts and only had them on since oct c5kmiles.. but did include 3 visits to the pod.

so thought i would give these a shot, i dont expect them to last any longer prob less with them been a R rated compound though should give me some good traction

they are not a complete micky mouse brand, although made in korea I believe they are used for the vw cup series

Help me out here.  In all these debates no one seems to mention Bridgestone Potenzas which I think were original eqpt. on Mk 5 GTI's. My 14K mile GTI is nearly 5 years old but is still on its original rubber and the fronts are still comfortably legal - this is a tribute to its original fastidious owner rather than to my attempts over the last 2K miles. OK I'm new to the car but they seem reasonably sticky and obviously have good wear characteristics. The traction control light gives me a wink now and then but 200BHP IN the wet through the front wheels on old tyres seems a reasonable excuse.

Realistically I'll need some replacements in the next few months - Blackcircles list the Bridgestones at £90 a corner, potentially saving me the best part of £30 apiece over the Michelin Sport 2/3's which seems to be the peoples' choice. I had Goodyear F1's on my Mk 4 GTI - I was quite happy with them other than the dreadful road noise that developed when they were beyond half worn.

So why not Bridgestones ???

tis very true steve - yeah its driven hard but i do look after it, check oil levels etc once a week and have a mini service/oil change every 8k miles as well as the main dealer service as per schedule, this is needed with it been modified, but how many other owners look after their gti like that...

touch wood so far (dsg box aside) the car has never missed a beat

at the end of the day its a gti its meant to be thrashed

thrashing...sounds more line caning the living daylights out of it :-)
5k from a set of PS2s - I'm guessing that's not even swapping front to back ? I'm not a penny pincher but I'd hope to see 10k from a pair.
