Oil cooler
« on: 15 November 2004, 13:45 »
My MK2 Gti 8v doesn't have an oil temp sender sprouting from the oil cooler, instead one of the holes is blanked off and the other has the pressure sensor.

I have a loose wire in the engine bay to connect a temp sender to the MFA but nowhere to connect it!

Is it a big deal to replace the top of the oil filter/cooler mounting to one with two holes??

The engine was replaced about a year ago, so I guess the mechanic put the wrong part on??

no its not that hard, but you could get a t piece from a performance motorsport store (i got mine from big boys toys) like this

that would be easier, other than that its just an unbolt then bolt back on job

Sounds like the filter housing is from a Carb engine, they don't have the extra hole needed.  If you plan to change your oil at some point get a GTI filter housing from a scrappy and chuck it on there!

That would explain it I guess.  Is it just the filter housing I have to buy or does the oil cooler come attached to it??

The oil cooler is seperate from the housing, held on with a nut.
