Hi Snoopy

Don't be concerned... I picked up my car today & its just the same on mine!

I asked (my dealer) if that was normal and he said afraid so! He also showed me another GTI & a GTD which again were the same!

A slight concern  of mine is that when i got home and parked up there was a distinct burning smell (rear end) when I got out (I had taken it very easy)!

Is that normal?!

Ben

Thanks mate, I may call on you for the VAGcom to sort the running light out if i findout how to change them.

Ben,
It will probably be a paint burning smell just the new paint on the exhaust burning.
Thanks for asking the dealer, saved me a trip to my local dealers forcourt tomorrow to have a look and ask them.

Well when you have had as many set backs as me on this car you begin to wonder what next! i want to make sure its right as what could go wrong has done so far

Im sure im not the only one wondering these things in the future so it may help the frum  or not

Oh, and i have not driven it yet  and have fixed one rear end squeek already. (the spare wheel well strap catch moving on the boot carpet.)

I have had a couple of things missing the GTI manual holdall (do you still get these?) and the wire hook thing for removing the wheel bolt caps. Theres quite a few scratches too some i have managed to polish out others not so but im been gentle as the paints still newish im sure later i can sort them.

Snoops: As always, you open our eyes to lots of interesting facts and information. Now it is your turn to open that throttle. I fully understand how you feel as by now you probably have little or no confidence in VW and its dealers.
Go forth and enjoy the Blue Bell.

Snoopy

You've had a ridiculous wait and you just want everything to be perfect. Understood.

IMHO the GTI is about as perfect as you'll get at the moment but remember it also has some personality.
No car is 100% perfect and there is always something you 'have to get used to'.

Enjoy, and welcome to the club.

I got a vw leather holdall but not a GTI one... My dealer reckoned you don't get them anymore! (Ditto the top up oil)! Although he did give me some GTI mats gratis!

I don't think i have the 'wire hook thingy' either does anyone have a pic?

I too had a few stractches but managed to polish them out...
