Fuel and additive question

I realise I'm probably starting the 99/98 RON vs 95 RON argument similar to the 16v vs 8v argument which is unending (Until you all realise 8V wins hands down and is better... FACT  )

I've been reading about V-Power vs Tesco Super Unleaded, vs Esso SUL and BP SUL... Are there any differences, is it worth sticking any of them in a mk2 1.8 Gti 8v 1991 Digifant?

Also, they talk about Millers Octane booster... ( http://bbs.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-general-1/796393-octane-booster.html )

Is it worth adding those to normal fuel(95RON) and would it give any benefit to SUL bearing in mind the car its used on?

Unless the engine is tuned I would stick to unleaded the same goes for additives.

Octane boost has been noted as a waste of money, i read an article on it a while back (will try dig it) which showed the best of the top 5 rated brands increasing the octane by .2 or something

Super makes absolutely no discernable difference to my 92 digi.

The last time I saw those additives in Helfrauds I worked out it would actually cost less to use super than buy the additive. Although with the price of fuel now that may have changed.

imo it only makes a difference if you have a newer GTI, i.e. mk5 >

They run pretty much exactly the same in a mk2, and anyone else who says different it under the placebo effect.

fuel addictives only really make a difference on injection cars, especially on turbocharged engines.
I use it every so often as it cleans carbon build up inside the engine and grime in the fuel lines.

but, am i right in saying that people with pinking issues have found 99ron etc to be better for their motor?

It may 'solve' their problem, but not fix the underlying cause.
