Oil pouring out!!! help
« on: 13 November 2004, 14:23 »
I have alot of oil coming out of the engine especially when running, it is a constant drip so loosing alot of oil.

It is coming from above the oil filter at the back next to the engine(really hard to see up there) where, i can't see exactly where from though, any ideas if this is a common problem or what i should do next?

thanks

Yep filter is on tight, the oil is coming from above the oil cooler somewhere! the oil switches are fine too!

Must be coming from a gasket if it is not the switches or filter. Check around the filter housing and the head gasket.
Steve.

Ok looks like it's the oil filter bracket that's leaking! I am getting a new gasket tommorrow and i will replace the oil filter seal as i am there!

Any tips on this, or is it just a case of removing and replacing the gasket and refitting?

Cheers

try squeezing the 2 black rubber boots on the top of the oil filter housing. these are the oil pressure switches and when these go oil pisses up thru them and into the wee rubber boots

I have pulled these off and there is no sign of oil, I'll change the oil filter bracket gasket as I think it coming from there! (so hard to see though as it's almost hidden!)

only ?0.96p for gasket, hope it does it!

wish me luck

There is only the one gasket for the housing, should I just rub clean or use something like gunk to remove any oil before the new gasket goes on? I am assuming it just a matter of removing the housing, ditching the old gasket and replacing the new gasket and refit the housing!

Does this sound right? need to get it all clear in my head before i go ahead!

Cheers

id assume you'd need to drain all the oil out first or your gonna get a very messy driveway!!

then just give it a clean with a dry clean rag

the only reason you put a little lip of oil on the oil filter seal is so that it comes of easy the next time
