lol exonian!!!!!! and how much more on insurance and how much more if tampering with output invalidates warranty though???? the idea of tuning a GTI 6 is appealing, but how do insurance companies look at it???????

I'm not tuning mine but I acknowledge that many people do  -  you don't need to be thinking about tuning before test driving both cars  -  you might find the Gti to be great as it is...

All I can say to that is; it depends on how honest you are!!!  :grin:

Insurance varies wildly from company to company. Mind don't charge a huge premium to me as I've been with the company for years, yet to new customers they won't even offer cover!
As for VW, it depends on your dealer and your honesty.....oh, and a dash of luck too!

However, if embarrassing Civic Type R drivers on a motorway is your thing, then yeah, go for the BMW.

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

the quoted 0-62 is 6.9 secs but many people suggest that it's more like 6.5  

this i agree with 100%, its much quicker than 6.9 seconds

6.3 SECS 0-60 as tested by VW Driver if my memory serves.......Yet the STANDARD Mk5 was quoted as 6 seconds dead??????!!!!!!! by SAME magazine?????? is that TRUE????? NO way............

i can only go on personal experience, and my mk 6 is a sh1t load quicker than my mk 5!

Couple of hundredths or even tenths of a second can be because of so many variables, weather, temperature, shoes the driver was wearing, tyres, manufacturing tolerances of the car, etc. etc. etc.
