Sub behind door card - Mk2 Golf
« on: 17 March 2010, 23:39 »
Hi

I have continued a thread which can be found here http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=147849.0 as it is more appropriate as my questions are now audio related.

I have a great shallow mounted sub in the rear quarter or my Golf, kindly fitted at the weekend by Troublestarter

It sounds great, until the door card was refitted whereby it started to resonate, so the solution I hope is to lift the original cloth, cut a hole (to let the air escape), attach some acoustic cloth over the hole and refit the fabric. This should mean I have the sound I want and keep the original look of the car

My question is, if the card still resonates, do you think adding sound deadening material and maybe some wadding to the back of the card, will cure it?

I guess the answer will be "try it and see", but I would like to hear of any other ideas you may have.

Here's a pic of the sub going in.

Cheers!
Stu

I do not fully understand what you mean but the ''letting the air escape'' part does not sound like a good idea as if it is meant to be sealed then this is how it should be, sealed. You do not want interference from the rear waves of the sub.

Undertood, the sub is in a sealed box as shown in the pic, but when I put the door card back on, ie in front of the firing sub, the waves generate resonance. I'm hoping that cutting the door card (not touching the sealed box) it will release this pressure.

I hope this makes sense now?

oh, I see now  yeah, that should be fine, in fact it should be a fair bit better.

yeah, if it still does it just weigh the card down with something, either that or stuff something (bathroom sponges, tea towels;)) behind it so that it cannot move and it is held firmer on its fixings.

Cool, I hope that it will give those that want to keep "originality" but still mod a bit an option.

Cheers
