Gamma for a Mk2
« on: 16 March 2010, 16:21 »
Hi everyone, I've being thinking of changing the pants c.d. player in my mk2 golf for a later gamma or beta from a mk4.  does anyone know of any issues with this as all the ones i've seen on ebay don't appear to have a cage (are these radios fitted without one?).  The prices seem pretty reasonable and the look is more inkeeping with the mk2 interior.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The MKIV era VW's have a kinda built in plastic cage that the gamma fits in. I have a broken Gamma headunit and a spare ali cage at home so I'll have a look tonight for you and see if they work together.

Cheers Nick, didn't want to by one then not be able to fit it securely.

Just tried and the answer is no. It's a couple of mm bigger at the front so the cage goes on 90% of the way then gets stuck. I reckon though you'll get one if you don't use any cage but making sure it doesn't rattle or fall out when you nail it could be tricky.

I'm sure I've seen them fitted though so it can't be that hard.

Thanks Nick, like you say I'm sure heard of these been fitted before.

Anyone else have any ideas?
