Question, why did you relocate the temp sensor to the outside so it gets hammered by head on wind?...

As dom says - they are located outside on the mk3 as standard - iv moved mine to a place behind the lower vent tho

Not in the path of wind though surly?

on the mk1 the tip of the sensor is inside the O/S chassis leg.  Can't see how you'd get an accurate "ambient" temp otherwise... not that it matters with mine though as since my engine went back in the MFA is nothing but a clock at the moment.

located my temp sensor behind the bumper so its not gonna take the heat from the engine or the direct cold air hit from mounted outside the bumper whist travelling
