steering wheel swop advice pls

hi
just bought nice mk 3 leather steering wheel (ta joe).  Steering wheel should be straight swop as same model mk3 with air bag.  any tips on this - photos even?  I asked the garage and they muttered about it having an airbag and so might not be able to do it! 
what do you reckon they could charge me?

Simple enough job and the airbag system won't be a problem, if you fit a resistor 1/2 watt 3.3 Ohm will do the job, or a resistor with wiring plug is available from VW for a tenner  Do you have a socket set etc?

edit: should of read it properly, airbag wheel for airbag wheel is straight swap, disconnect battery wait 15mins (ideally for safety) undo 2 bolts in back of wheel holding airbag on, undo airbag connector then large socket on the nut (22mm or 24mm i think) to remove the wheel leave nut on couple of turns will you pull the wheel as it will be tight on splines and don't want it to hit you in the face while pulling, fitting revesal of removal

You don't need a resistor at all. It's a simple swap - steering wheel for steering wheel.

Disconnect your battery
Using an allen key, unscrew the two bolts on the back of the steering wheel - this removes the airbag from the wheel so just pop the plug off with a flat headed screwdriver
Undo the 24mm nut in the middle - steering wheel is now off

Refitting is reverse of removal..

It's a quick and easy job, no need to ask a garage for that.

1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Undo 2 screws behind the steering wheel - that will losen the airbag, so you can remove it
3. Before completely removing the airbag, disconnect it from the wire first. It just pops out from the back of the airbag.
4. There will be a 24mm nut that holds the steering wheel in place, undo that and pull the steering wheel off.
5. Put your new steering wheel in place and do the reversal of everything.

Remember to align the steering wheel straight, before starting to do anything, so once you put the new one, it will be straight.

Also before reconnecting the battery, put the key in the ignition and turn it to "ON". This will prevent the airbag light from staying on.

i did mine at the weekend and changed it for a 3.5 one..... gti for gti is a straight swap over.
and i found as long as the battery was diconnected before i undid the air bag, and reconnected after the wheel was all back together the air bag light would go off i didnt touch the key as i too was lead to believe this might cause an issue??
...if the light stays on?? vagcom should sort it, if you have one???

Brilliant - cheers for help guys.    Gonna have a go this weekend.
So got the message about not putting key in ignition - airbag danger!  Disconnect battery - red then black?
Everything else seems cool though.
Don't have anything more than ajustable spanners and screwdrivers - do I need a socket set?  Never done anything like this before.  Sounds safe tho

Your going to need a 24mm socket plus bar for the steering wheel nut.
