what makes were the fake ones?

They were not fakes, just budget tyres with a pattern like the Continentals also tested.  My main conclusion was that the Mk6's brakes seemed a little feeble.

At less than 7C the Goodyears might be even worse than the budgets.  They never quote temperature in these psuedo scientific tests.
Currently digging a bunker.

....I'm assuming you mean 7C external ambient temperature.

I use a TyreSure monitor which displays both pressure and temperature for each individual tyre fitted and updates itself about every 5 seconds. So I can report that independent of external ambient temperature, the tyre temperatures vary independently. All the external ambient does is influence the rate at which the tyres gain heat and that, in turn is influenced by your driving. Tyre temps are cooler in wet weather too.

Hurdy uses a TyreSure monitor too.
