Central Locking
« on: 02 March 2010, 16:30 »
Anyone been having probs with the central locking in their cars in this weather ? I would have thought that with the mk6 GTI being modern, the central locking mechanism would be protected from the weather, but It's happened to us twice now where the passenger door does not release.

It's going in to the dealers for a quick check over on Monday, is this the weather thats causing it, or could it be something else ? anyone experienced this yet ?

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

the cold weather knocked my radio out in my car. My local dealer replaced it for me
so in regards to your central locking probs, it may well be the weather. see how its goes

Kev, has it always been like that, or just in this weather?

Some are set-up through the MFD to be like that?
MKV GTI | Reflex Silver | 5-dr | Anthracite 17" | Manual | Highline MFD | Cruise | Revision 'D' DV | Dirty Pipes |

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

It's only done it twice in this weather, the 2nd time this morning. I do realise you have to hit unlock twice for it to open the passengers side but I've never opened the doors differently to what I'm doing now.

What side was your damage on? I just wonder if they may have knocked something when repairing it?

Passengers side. Same side as the side that didnt unlock.

Thing is though, the time it did it before, was before the 'incident'

Thanks Keelaw.

The dealer did say it might be the solenoid or it may just need greased up.

Minus 7 in Prestwick this morning at 7am, poor GTI frozen solid, after several "tugs" at the driver's door handle, and starting to worry it would just come off in my hand, I opened the back door (much easier!) and then the front door opened easily, wierd. Shirt not quite properly tucked in, jesus wept, was it cold when my back hit the leather seat! mirrors unfolded first time though, and i managed to get home with the 2 inch hole i scraped in the iced windscreen!
5dr Silver GTI DSG (they've invented something to change gears quickly, I'm using it- has anybody specc'ed manual window winders so they feel more involved?) Leather, RNS, Blueteeth and a few odd and sods

Mine's playing that game too.  I didn't connect it with the weather though.

I thought it was a problem with the set-up being too clever - remember, I was the one b!tching about the way the boot locks itself whether you want to to or not.  I just want everything to open on one click, and everything to lock again with one click, and not before.  Seems this is too complicated for the GTi.
