This is the 2e engine in a passat but the golf will be the same

Its in the top of the black housing the coolant pipe from the radiator is going into. Just to the right of the dipstick.

What colour should it be,I have just replaced it and the new one was black 4pin is this right
the only reason I ask is I'm having big trouble with the car running at 110 degrees and have replaced everything I can think of now and it still won't run at 90 could it be the temp sender is the wrong one and giving a false Reading on the gauge as the car dosnt overheat it just gets to 110 then sits there even I in traffic.

Hmmm its just black this one,it had a yellow cable tie round it when i got it out the packet but overall its just black,i got it from eurocarparts,i think i might get a thermometer and see what temp the water in the xpansion tank is when its running at 110 as this problem is really doing my head in now.

it should have a coloured ring where the connector plugs on....but I'm guessing the cable tie is ecp's version?
