I have a mk2 GTi 5 door. When I bought it, it came with JVC CD head unit (with remote!) and a 12 disc changer under the passenger seat. Standard speakers in the front of the dash along with a pair of Clarion 6x9s in a stealth shelf. The car used to have an amp and sub in the boot and still has the phono RCA lead and the power lead in there.

The front passenger speaker farts, so needs replacing. Should I just find a replacement (part number anyone?) speaker  or should I go with an upgrade for both?

I managed to get a sub with 4 amps for a good price on ebay.
12" mutant sub in enclosure 20" x 14" x 14" along with mutant amp (mt1202R - 2 x 60W RMS 4 Ohm, 2 x 90W RMS 2 Ohm, 1x 200W @ 4 Ohm bridged (peak 600W))
As well as a Legacy LA360 400W 2 ch, one mosfet amp-600 150W x 4ch 600W max, one mosfet amp-480 240w x 2ch 480W max.

I was thinking of running the sub on the mutant amp with the 6x9s on the legacy. Which would make sense to upgrade the front speakers for mid and high end. But I have read alot of people saying a sub and 6x9s sound awful.

Any suggestions? I will sell on the kit I don't use.

Decent components at the front - sub in the boot.  Ditch the 6x9s.
