Newbie help with heated seats - NOW WITH PICS!

Hi guys, been lurking in the background for a while and since buying my 54plate Mk5 over the weekend, now is time for my first post!!! 

I managed to find a nice example with a few extra's like heated seats, satnav, cruise etc... and in typical fashion, I checked most things, but missed a couple of things which I now need help with. 

The passenger side heated seat and electric lumbar motor don't work. The drivers side works perfectly. I don't have a fuse box manual, but found one online and it looks like the heated seat fuse should be fuse 37 (30A) and the motor lumbar fuse is fuse 34 (15A). The thing is on the diagram I have it says these fuses supply both driver and passenger sides.

So, a little bit of detective work to find the supply cables in the sockets under the seats. 12vdc is present at the supply socket on the drivers side, but no voltage present on the socket on the passenger side.

Is there anything to separately fuse the drivers and passenger sides? Its not a loose connection because I was testing the voltage with the plug removed and testing driectly on the supply side plug pins.

Any help is greatly appreciated on what this could be.

I'm about as technical as a dead fish, so I can't help you with the fuses... sounds like a nice spec, though. 

If you post a pic, or even describe the colour, there will be some nutter here who'll know the name and paint code?

Paint code is on a sticker under the carpet in the boot, it will be a 4 digit code,  mine been met black its LC9Z...

The seats have there own control box under the individual seat it had a block of wires going into it that split off from the drivers seat, then go to the control box, have a look under the seat and check all the connections.

Cheers guys, found the paint code under the carpet in the boot as you said, LA7W reflex silver!   

As for the heats, they're still a mystery! So let me get this straight, you're saying the power is supplied to the drivers side first, then branches off (via a control unit) to the passenger side? I've checked all the plugs etc and they seemed ok? If I get some pics up, are there any technical bods who can help me? Where is this control box you mention?

Ok, here's some pictures of the wiring looms under the seats which will hopefully help people to help me!

Basically, there are 3 in line plugs under the seats, 2 black and 1 white, there is a fourth connection which terminates into a black box. All connections on both passenger and driver side appear to be well made.



The wiring looms are fed from a teminal box under the seats. There are 3 plugs, 1 small white, 1 small black and 1 large black connection. I basically set about trying to find a voltage that was present on the drivers side that was missing on the passenger side. All I could find was 2 thicker wires on the large black plug which had 12vdc on them drivers side, but not on passenger side. As I said, the problem is that both heated seats and motorised lumbar support work on drivers side, but not passenger and I can't find any fuses blown.



Hope someone can help!

The pictures are of the drivers side wiring, if the kink was an issue, I'd assume the drivers side wouldn't be working?

I've nothing constructive to add except don't mess with the yellow plug - thats the airbag wiring.

Next step might be to start tracing that plug's wiring back until you find where the power is.

Other thing that might be worth doing is pulling the fuses one by one and checking them.  A blown fuse in a seeminly un connected system can sometimes have odd effects on other things.  For example the fuse for the central locking in my fiancee's polo made the drivers side window switch wind down the passenger side window.  They are related as both use the convienience module...

Just some ideas

Ok, might give "pulling the fuses" a go. Do I need to be weary about doing any harm? ie; losing radio memory or unplugging an ecu fuse any maybe losing some parameters or doing some other damage? If not, I'll get cracking at pulling the fuses.
