Hi all,

As many of you are aware I have posted on here many times before, about my golf gti 8v 96 cutting out and not starting from hot.

I really thought the problem was sorted with the Crankshaft Position Sensor being changed, I have also changed the ignition switch, and coil pack.  The CPS was the last part I changed.

Everything seemed good for a week, and now the problem came back today!!!!!!
I am seriously p*ssed off with it now, when it's running it is lovely.

I plugged it into a V-checker, picture below of the v-checker, before you all cuss it, I know its only a cheep one lol.  It came up with this code 00532 supply Voltage.  Any ideas if this can be linked to the problem, and what parts would I change? Dizzy cap? Leads? Plugs?
Any advice welcome, as I am sorry to say this, I am considering going back to Fords.  I owned Fords for seven years previous to the golf, and not one let me down, EVER!!

rather than checking the relays... http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=143254.10 did you actually change them? it's so cheap and easy you may as well, my problems were caused by them... they can be intermittent...

+1 Change relays if not done already.

Still problems eh..
If the relays mentioned previously don't sort it i guess you need to get a decent specialist diagnostic on it and source the problem once and for all..
Probably too far for you but Colin Gunning in Hertford did mine as a freebe while i was there..admittedly it was having other jobs done on it, Decent chap and a VW specialist but independant.

This might help.

Check the voltage coming out of your alternator.

Check your battery and other earth points, and check wiring connectors.

Only just got my gti Mk3 and the previous owner by the looks had had problems for some time and
chopped it in.
The car was stuttering in every gear around 1500-2000 revs and losing power, he had replaced everything
by the looks to find the problem, dizzy and rota, plugs, leads, the lot, even a new Bosch ecu costing £300,
i only paid £375 for the car and its mint with fsh etc. First thing i did was change the cambelt and found the bottom crank
pulley to be at fault, there is a little key on the pulley that had been damaged in the past and someone had
glued it back on, this had moved and knocked the timing out causing the problem.
Sorry for the long reply but i think its best if you like the car to get it sorted, get it to a specialist and let them
find the problem if you have exhausted everything else.
That is what the previous owner of my car should have done and didn't, now i have a lovely car at his expense.
