Car Hinge

How are you guys cleaning this ? I've tried a little tooth brush, but it just smudges little bits of dirt around and you cant get them completely off. I cant blast the dirt away as the door and inside of the car will get soaked.

Any ideas ?

door shuts - spray with APC and work in with a brush and then use a blade nozzle on a pressure washer - start the nozzle 'off' the car and then gently work it onto the bodywork/door shut

I tend to not do into the actual hinges too much as the grease is there for a purpose

Thanks for that.

I didnt explain myself properly. I can see the grease around the hinge so I dont touch them. I'm more meaning like down the bottom of the doorwhere the fold meets the sill, right in that corner bit I cant get into. Then going right up the inside part of the 'hinge' (where the inside of the door meets the car itself) I can only get to certain areas. Sorry I just call that the hinge part.  :grin:

honestly... takes about a minute each shut and you end up with good results



I tend to finish off with a product called autosmart 'finish' which brightens up the area and the plastics nicely  :wink:

When you say the door is shut, and you gently work the 'blade' nossle into the bodywork/seam, no water gets through to the inside of the car ? I would be scared that with the force of the karcher the water would find a way through ?

No, no.. Door shuts are what the area is called

You have to clean it with the door open otherwise you can't get to it? :huh:

Wrt water getting into the car.. Use the method I suggested with a blade jet from a pressure washer, start it off the car and work onto the area.. If you are really worried then cover your seats etc..

I totally get you now. I thought that it would push the dirt in towards the car making it easier to wipe away, Sorry.  :embarassed:

If you are REALLY worried about water indirectly splashing into the car then you could always spray in the APC, work in well with a brush (long handled radiator brush with the metal taped over works a treat).. And then use a watering can to wash off.. This was my old method and it worked ok :)
