Throttle body cleaning.

Hi, I'm about to clean the throttle body on my car is there anything i need to do with the ecu once it's done like a reset? I've been readin around and some seem to say it requires a TBA (Throttle body alignment) of the ecu?

yeah. dont touch the tps (throttle position sensor) on the tb, leave it on when cleaning, just dont bang or drop it.

Take tha battery off, and when your done, hook it up and turn on the ignition, dont start it, there will be loads of whirring and clicking - when that stops, you can start the engine.

vag-com can force a tb alignment, if you have it.

TB alignment? On a Mk3 16v?
I don't think so...they are throttle cable, so don't need an 'alignment' as the 1.8Ts do.
It looks to be a 16v in the OPs sig.

You can re-code the TPS to the ECU...but shouldn't need to...certainly not after cleaning.

Ess - does this apply to the 8v aswell...???

As i really need to clean mine, and polish it with some nice metal polish from work.... :afro:

Not sure about SIMOS 8vs...but the early ones I seem to recall had a throttle cable.
16vs certainly do...along with early 2.8 VR6s and 2.9 VR6s.

When you hear polishing...it's not actually necessary to polish it up like a mirror...it's a poor term really.
You just need to remove any casting marks, clean up the air flow path etc.

Same here, for a 16v.... i tell a lie i had the throttle reset thru vagcom

Likewise, the simple undoing of 4 bolts and and some elbow grease is all that is needed here.

all mk3s have cable TB, so no need to realign.
