bad luck mate. I remember when my old mk2 had its window smashed in and had done the same thing. Screw driver down the side of the handle. The car was off the road and due to be scrapped. It also had no battery in it either so they wouldnt have got far. But it still made me feel physically sick! Such a horrible feeling. I am waiting for something to happen to my current golf
I don't think a semi will give the same results
Anyway i just rebuilt a passenger side door lock barrel to suit my keys, i stripped 3 barrels of their pins and eventually got a working barrel.... a bit of trial & error and head scratching tho. those pins are fiddly too
