Oh... I assumed from the title that it was going to be an RNS510 direct replacement - in that it wouldn't need an aftermarket fascia adapter.  I guess you'll need to fork out for a CanBus adapter to get that to work too?

My Fiscon was £300 as theres a forum discount - but if you can get to them they'll fit it for £300.
I'll stick with the RNS510 - as it looks OEM and is less likely to get torn straight out of my dashboard by tea leafs!
Golf R... 3 door, DSG, Leather, Reflex Silver, Black 19" Talladega Wheels, ACC, Parking Sensors, RNS510 with Dynaudio, Reverse Camera, Luxury Pack, Cruise Control & Fiscon Bluetooth.

dont mean to pee on your bonfire donnie, but what exactly does that unit offer better than the rns510 other than a slightly wider screen and full postcode search... for double the money?? not to mention a very aftermarket look?

Has a very cheap aftermarket look, I must admit.
Probably get stolen much more quickly too, especially if you live in Leeds!

I would take that kenwood over any OEM blaupunkt VW offer but thats just me. But im biased as I have been involved in the highend aftermarket audio game for over 18 years.
Heres a photo from the kenwood scirocco demo car from the trade show last year.

It looked far far far better in person, I was trying to highlight the faults when i took the photos

Have to agree. the OEM unit buttons match up nicely with the interior etc. after market is just a target for theives and never quite look right anyway.

OEM is a big target nowadays for theft its not like they cannot get it out easy and sell it on ebay to all these VW owners that want to upgrade

Agreed. However the market for aftermarket stereo's is much greater... you are very limited to whom you can sell to if you nick a VW nav.

I know what you meen but there is a huge market for OEM now. According to Northumbria police they say its the in thing at the moment VW satnav and VW airbags! You maybe interested to know according to the trade magazine the market for oem upgrades is more than the market for aftermarket at the moment and has been for quite a while and its why some of the aftermarket brands are now doing OEM look and fit or developing such.

It's pretty annoying that even after years of issues relating to ICE theft the manufacturers of the VW unit don't provide it with anything like a decent security feature...it surely can't be that difficult to do something, especially considering the prices they charge for the RNS510

Do any of the aftermarket units come with decent security features? (just incase my RNS ends up "disappearing")

yes my original question was if anyone had heard of the official VW kenwood branded nav kit that was due out soon- according to the guy in VW parts near me. No-one seemed to have heard anything, I realised I have no ability to wait for anything so went for this one.
Will let you know how it turns out- I agree on the OEM look, and was close to ordering from OEMretrofit.
In the end features won it- full postcode, and I'm now getting the kenwood freeview tv tuner too for another couple of hundred :)
Just sold an S5 - previously mkV R32 DSG Metallic Grey with RNS 510 (thanks to MortyGT140)
