Advice on battery drain
« on: 01 February 2010, 16:46 »
Basicaly my new headunit drains my battery flat in 4-6 days in off, I tried the yellow and red switch but it never worked to keep the headunit on. So I wired both the red and yellow directly to 12v, there are no shorts. But because the headunit is always on the battery drains in the time specified.

With my new job I might be using the car all week, otherwise not using it at all for a few weeks altogether, so when I jump in i got a flat battery, then shouting "FFS, back to public transport" any advice in regards to the battery issue or what i can do to prevent it?

Prefably the cheapest option, like a 2nd battery, better battery, limiting power to headunit when ignition off... I'll leave it to the experts

if it is a mk2 golf then just wire up the red ignition live to the thick black/red coming from the heater switch then it will turn on from when the ignition is turned on
you can also get the ignition live from the ignition barrel and it is a black wire
that should solve your excessive current draw
