any ideas?????
« on: 26 January 2010, 18:13 »
hi all,
im still fairly new to audio,
but thought id buy a amp (from here -fellow club member)
and got my self a amp wiring kit,

i have spent the last 2 days installing it all ,after work, beforre the dark sets in( not long )
got some new alpine rear speakers.
and was really chuffed with my self...................until i switched everything on.......

nothing from the new alpine speakers.....there is power getting to the amp, but nothing from the speakers,
does this mean the amp is buggered???????

cheers all

so the amp lights up yeah?

If so this means that...

1.there is either a problem with the supply of signal to the amp.
2.there is a problem between the amp and the speakers
3.there is a problem with the speakers
4.the amp is screwed.

to test....

1. try to use another source. A known working HU possibly or even an mp3 player with a RCA adaptor (instead of headphones) going direct into the amps RCA inputs. It may also be worth trying with some known good RCA cables, something may ( but unlikely)have happened during the installation to your current ones.
2. wire a speaker direct from the amp terminals with only a short bit of wire, just laid in the boot. use a house speaker if you have no spare car audio ones.
3. see number 2.
4. Try another amp, if it works then you will need to buy another amp.

TBH as neither speaker is working it does sound as though the amp is faulty....

You have checked the power cable fuse yeah?

as long as the JVC has RCA preouts it will work, you may need to switch the preouts on (using the JVC menus) though.

well  folks,

i could not find anything in the owners manual, or in the set up,   and it still would not work.

so i have just put my kenwood back in,and all is well.

i went to the audio shop where i got it from, and they said they would send it back for repair,(it's only 6 months old) so that's something i suppose.

still strange
