Ready to order gti
« on: 22 January 2010, 20:13 »
Would love an R all the R chat and recent test drive reviews make me even more tempted - very cool car, however I need an all round car and the GTI is going to tick all the boxes (need a tow bar for one - its for a boat as well as a trailer before I get shot for putting a tow bar on a GTI).

Anyway ready to order a GTI and prepared for the wait - will give me a chance to sell my subaru. My question is should I wait until April - from what I have read there could be a few minor changes 2010 model?, or if I order it now if there are any changes I will get them anyway as my build date would be after April? I have got a price with drivethedeal.com with around 11% off so happy with that, grateful for your thoughts.

Depends what the dealer says who drivethedeal will hook you up with.

If they have any allocation they will be able to order it now, so no need to wait until April. No one knows what the new year model changes will be.

Decisions, decisions.... get it bought!!!!

Drivethedeal have estimated delivery times iirc. So base that as best case on your time line for any order you place. You would get any minor spec updates if your cars build date is after the update. You are also price protected from any VW price rise VW intorduce (back page of broucher) from the time of your order.
For some reason my memories gone blank about the date (EDIT around the end of april) VW intorduce the 2011 model i think they start filtering into uk dealers around June time.

Thanks for the replies - Snoopy thanks for the advice, sorry for being stupid but what is iirc. I like the idea of being protected form a price rise for sure. Might be an idea to leave it a for a month to make sure the build date would be after the April date you spoke about?

If you are launching and recovering a boat I'd stick with the the Subaru.
FWD is rubbish on wet slipways.

Good point Egburt - I can currently use a beach to lunch my boat with the subaru and have thought I will have to use a slip way about a mile away so no problems there - or so I thought - surely front wheel drive isn't that bad?
