OK. Looking a bit more promising.

Should I take the car back to the dealer and ask for them to reload the latest software or take it to a mapper and get fresh map. Believe it or not, I'd prefer to keep the car standard.

Failing that a trip to Newcastle is not out of the question. It'll be worth a tank of fuel if I could potentially save £100s.

Topher, you are nearer. Do you think you could help? Unfortunately, I can't make it today, but will be in touch if necessary.

Thanks again.

Chris is on the rolling road at the moment. He did say you might be popping in today but dont worry if you cannot make it, you can pop over any time when you want.  I will take a look and the flash and serial eeprom for you, first to see it is a stock file your running then the see where the chk fault is, not matter what it is we can fix it, we have a full batch of virgin serial files which will allows us to start from scratch if need be.

Nick

Excellent. Thanks.

I'll drop by the other local VW dealer in case they know anything about it.

Otherwise, I'll find out when she can next spare the car and bring it over to you. I just hope the car is ok to use with the warning lights on.

This is part of the VW bulletin released in the usa, borrowed from golfmkv forums

it wasn't a recall, but a "Required vehicle update technical bulletin" so i think you have to pay for it outside of warranty :undecided:

you might want to print this off and show your dealer also http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerofile/4101/vw.tb.01-07-21.pdf

Have printed off the bulletin and will take it to the dealer to see what they say.

It looks exactly what I need, so fingers crossed. It states it takes 20 'time units' which I'm hoping is 5mins i.e. 1 hour, so I don't mind paying that.

My chassis number isn't in the range specified, so I'm not counting my chickens yet, but if this works, I'll have to find a way of PMing a drink for you .
