Suspension - Mk6 and Mk5 GTIs

For a Mk6 GTI without ACC, how would you all comment on its suspension/ride quality when comparing with Mk5 GTI?

Similar.

I put some Koni FSD dampers on my mk5 GTI to smooth out the bumps a bit as the originals had over 40k on them and the ride had got a bit choppy on some road surfaces. FSDs are designed to add both comfort and sharpness to the suspension.
My mk6 has no ACC and was, until a month or so ago, wearing exactly the same wheels and tyres as my mk5 had on as I swapped them over. This gives me a very direct comparison as different tyres can make a big difference.
All I can say is there's not much in it. The mk6 is very refined for a performance car.

I havn't got ACC on mine and also use to have a mk5 gti and mk R32,
and to be honest i think the 5 Gti was a little more of a softer ride than the Mk6, i have also fitted 19s to the mk6 and cannot tell any difference in ride quality,
The mk6 is a firmer ride imo (or the potholes are getting bigger)

My dealer saids that getting from 17 to 18 inch on the MK VI will also include different suspension.

I find that hard to believe but I learned not to discuss in a shop  :lipsrsealed:.......so ordered the 18 inch anyway based on a friends advice who did not notice the  17/18 inch difference himself on his MK V.

I wonder if the perceived difference in 'firmness' from mk5 to mk6 (non acc) is down to the fact that those leaving the mk5 will have had cars with a fair bit of mileage on them for a brand new car...

I was under the impression the mk6 suspension was the same as the mk5 (non acc obviously).

A dealer friend of mine did say noticed a difference going from a new stock mk5 GTI to a new mk6 GTI as the mk6 was harder riding.

I have heard the 17 to 18 suspension difference talk before about the mk5, Iirc its bump stops and was talked about in the American forums.

On the mk5 I want from 17s to 8x18s. Noticed little difference apart from the front wheel used to catch the arch on severe road humps.
On the mk6 I went from 17s to 8x18s to 7.5x18s. Again I've noticed very little difference between any of them.
Mind you the car isn't my daily driver so subtle differences aren't really that obvious to me. The main difference I notice at the moment is that the tyres on the new wheels are still shiny on the tread and thus gtip isn't at it's best!

Mk5's suspension being softer and Mk6's being harder is also the impression I got after test driving both cars (surely the Mk5 was an used car of my friend's while the Mk6 is a demo car from the dealer, both were on 18"s and with factory suspension settings).

With the comments given above (thanks guys), I think it's safe to conclude that the ride of a Mk6 is about the same as that of a Mk5, if not a little bit harder.
