I was running coilovers and it was rubbing the rear shock, ok

Also any reason why you seem to pick on everything I post.

I don't pick on everything you post...only the plainly incorrect stuff.
Anniversary GTIs come with 7" wide wheels, ET43 and I have both those, and coilovers...and have no rubbing.
So you can't say it will rub.

I never had rubbing standard...neither did VW, which is whay they chose to type approve 7" wide ET43 wheels for the Mk3.
Maybe it's the brand of coilover...which you chose not to mention in your previous post?

Giving the impression 7" wide ET43 wheels will rub on a standard Mk3 Anniversary (which the OP has) is incorrect...unless SEAT have different lengths for 7" and 43mm to VW?

The wheels were 7x16 with a stamped offset of et43, tyres fitted were 205/45/16, I had Hottuning coilovers fitted and the rear wheels were touching the shock, I would have needed a 3mm spacer for clearance, did not bother in the end.

So for some reason they rubbed hence why I said they will / might.

Sorry that you feel I might not know what I am on about but for me they would not have fitted.

After looking at the pics I would go with the AMG's in the first picture....the others all look slightly odd!!!!!!!  Just my opinion but I am a big believer that if you like them it does not matter what others think!!!!!!!!!!      Cheers      Deano

Not looking to get involved in anything between Wayne and Ess Three but here is my one and only comment on the issue anyway!!!!!  I bought the 7inch wide Anni wheels and fitted them to my motor which is lowered 40mm on the back. Tyres were rubbing on the rear spring plate. Granted my tyres are the Mark 4 tyres and are too big

So you have the wrong size tyres on...and you wonder why it rubs?
It rubs...because you have the wrong sized tyres on. The rear spring plated only get rubbed if the diameter of the tyre is too large.

On 215/40/16 tyres - as VW fitted - to a car on standard suspension - as the original poster has - it won't rub, because it left the factory that way!

but lowered even more on coilovers would still be the same problem. Sorry Ess Three but I have to agree with Wayne on this one Mate and have the rubbed tyres to prove it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fit the correct sized tyres...and fit decent suspension - not some cheap-ass lashed up £200 set of coilovers - and it won't rub.
I have Koni coilovers, 215/40/16 tyres, lowered about 70mm and Anni 7" wide wheels...and it has never rubbed.

The problem there is the coilovers. Better designed coilovers remove this problem - or rather, don't cause it in the first instance.
Besides, I was referring to the original poster - who does not appear to have Hottuning coilovers fitted.

Other coilovers don't cause this problem. If the spring free lengths are correctly chosen, the problem doesn't occur...sadly, cheap suspension kits don't do their research properly.

I did state that my tyres were too big IF you can be bothered to read my post!!!!!!!!!!  If I want to run these tyres that is my business is it not????   I am not running cheap suspension as you put it. You know bugger all about my set up so keep your strong opinions to yourself Mate.  You seem to know a lot about nothing as all I said was 7 inch wheels could rub as mine did and Waynes did. Funny how ours did and others I know of did but yours didn't. Or did you use mega expensive parts that us mere mortals could not afford???

If you want to argue the toss that's up to you but don't come on here (on someone else's post in fact) slagging off my set up which you know nothing about.

You run what you want pal...just don't whine when ill-fitting tyres cause you rubbing, that anyone with a hole in their arse could have seen coming.

No, you are just running the wrong size of tyres...

You got me sussed...I know nothing.  I know what tyres will cause  problems on a Mk3…and that certain suspension will also cause problems…
But hey, what do I care?
I should just let the golfGTI.co.uk Mk3 ministry of miss-information keep giving people piss-poor advice.

Mine didn’t rub because I fitted the correct size of tyre, and decent suspension.
Not mega expensive but not £200 cheap crap either.

I know enough to know you are using the wrong size of tyres.
And if you weren’t, you wouldn’t be rubbing…and wouldn’t be whinging about it.

Ess Three..... Can you post up here the exact bit in my post where I complain about my tyres rubbing.  I am not stupid and know that larger tyres will rub who wouldn't???????  My tyres no longer rub and only rubbed for 5 mins before I resolved it but my post does add proof that 7inch wheels WILL meet the spring plate. So it seems to me the only person here whinging about tyres and suspension is you Mate. My car runs to my satisfaction and yours to your satisfaction so where is the problem??

Does that not suggest you were complaining of rubbing?

You say above:

my post does add proof that 7inch wheels WILL meet the spring plate

But they don't, on standard suspension or decent quality coilovers and when fitted with the correct size tyres.
VW sold 750 Aniversary GTIs in the UK with exactly that size of wheel/tyre...just like mine, and the original poster's car - and they don't rub!

So 7" wheels don't meet the spring plate...
Being pedantic, you'd need about 25" wheels for the wheel to hit the spring plate at all...as normaly it would be the tyre!

Read the post.....says "tyres WERE rubbing"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 7 inch wide wheels touched the spring plates and have 205 tyres on. If these touch the plate others will easily!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not getting involved with you again Mate as obviously everyone else is wrong and is making it up but you know best

Maybe I'm being thick...but your 7" wide, ET43 wheels (Anni?) rubbed on the spring plates with 205 wide tyres on?

Yet an Anniversary doesn't with 215 wide tyres?

What profile were/are your tyres?
