Yes but a 7" wheel with a 43mm offset can hit the rear shock, I know as I tried Seat alloys on mine.

I find that hard to believe...
Every Anniversary GTI has 7" x 16" ET43 on 215 wide tyres...and they are nowhere near the rear dampers.

The SEAT wheels must have been wider, or had a different offset.

I was running coilovers and it was rubbing the rear shock, ok

Also any reason why you seem to pick on everything I post.

I don't expect many positive replies  :undecided: , but a friend of mine photoshopped some Merc wheels onto the car for me.  Now Im not saying I am going to change the wheels for Merc wheels if they can be fitted, but it has given me some ideas.

I think the more solid chunky designs look better?

AMG monoblocks

Mercedes 8 hole design (not the best donor picture to be fair - the wheels are dirty and look skinny - some have a small dish and look much better )

Mercedes 15 hole - looks classy on a Mercedes not sure here?

Carat Duchalet wheels made for Mercedes.  Rare - but I know of a set for sale 16x8.

Opinions?

AMGs look the best, but I wouldn't personally bother with adapters, etc...

I'm sure you can find some alloys, which will fit perfectly and you will like them too. Get some "anni"s or deep dishes ;)

The trouble is by the time you add in £200 plus the risk of running adaptors it is no longer a cheap set of wheels.

The cost is one thing, but the whole hassle of doing this is just not worth it. I mean, you have to be seriously desperate for those wheels, if you do that.

I'm not saying that i will be fitting Merc alloys!  The pictures were to get opinions on what kind of design suits the mk3 better and to show the kind of wheel designs I like.  I think the more solid and chunky the wheel is the better.

That's why I'm not keen on the standard wheels already on the car - they are too 'spindly'/'spokey'.  Hard to explain!

Do VW do any designs similar to the Merc wheels that I like?

I was running these, 7x17 with 205/40/17's, your right in that flatter wheels seem to suit a mk3.

I don't pick on everything you post...only the plainly incorrect stuff.
Anniversary GTIs come with 7" wide wheels, ET43 and I have both those, and coilovers...and have no rubbing.
So you can't say it will rub.

I never had rubbing standard...neither did VW, which is whay they chose to type approve 7" wide ET43 wheels for the Mk3.
Maybe it's the brand of coilover...which you chose not to mention in your previous post?

Giving the impression 7" wide ET43 wheels will rub on a standard Mk3 Anniversary (which the OP has) is incorrect...unless SEAT have different lengths for 7" and 43mm to VW?

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

Not looking to get involved in anything between Wayne and Ess Three but here is my one and only comment on the issue anyway!!!!!  I bought the 7inch wide Anni wheels and fitted them to my motor which is lowered 40mm on the back. Tyres were rubbing on the rear spring plate. Granted my tyres are the Mark 4 tyres and are too big but lowered even more on coilovers would still be the same problem. Sorry Ess Three but I have to agree with Wayne on this one Mate and have the rubbed tyres to prove it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
