Which alarm???
« on: 11 January 2010, 13:11 »
Hi there I need to have a new alarm/immobilizer fitted to my MK2 golf. Don't want to spend a fortune but don't want a cheap alarm that I'll have problems with. Needs to be uncomplicated and reliable. Could anyone please recomend a make and model. Thanks.

How much would you expect to pay for the Toad?

Fitted about £250 (it's a Thatcham Cat 1, so to comply it needs to be professionally fitted and certified). You can buy them for less than £100.

I see that Toad do a home fitting service are they the best people to fit it? Can you add extra features to the alarm if so what would you recomend? Thank for the help.

Never used the home service, I had my Toad fitted by an ICE shop. As for extras it's entirely up to you - you can have total closure (might be standard), proximity sensors etc.

the toad ai606 is a good entry level cat 1 alarm
mk2 golfs though do not have total closure built in so you would need a window closure module to do that which would bumt the cost up
the microwave is also an add on and adds extra to the cost
for a little extra you could have this

I only have manual windows so total closer is not an issue. What does the microwave do?
Guess it's a (very!) long shot but could anyone recomend a company to fit the alarm in the Lincoln area?

microwave creates an invisible bubble that protects the inside and outside of the vehicle (depending on the microwave system)
so when someone walks up to the car it beeps to warn away prying eyes etc
the other advantage of microwave is you can leave your windows or roof down
and if you were interested i could come to you to supply and fit the previously mentioned alarm i linked you to
