I do as well. it shows the DSG being slower to 60 but nearly a second faster 30-50. That doesn't make any sense as 0-60 involves gear chnages where the DSG should be faster and 30 - 50 I wuold have thought involves no changes so the times should be the same!

As for which is faster this can only be settled by the same (indpendent) driver lapping a track with a good mixture of bends and straights. But that's never going to happen.

Nick

TopGear track???

their figures seem to be pretty consistent tbf.

But they've ignored the MKVI Golf in all forms so far so I doubt we'll be seeing a GTI lap let alone a GTD one. I'd hope they'd feature the R in the next series.

Nick

Yeah looks like they have got a bit of catching up to do. Although the ED30 never was featured as far as i can remember... but still had times up for it. I know, because thats where i used to point all the ED30 boys who thought there car was quicker than the R32

MKV's have been verified on timing gear to be much quicker than the stated VW times. Pretty sure a couple of mags have had 6.0 out of them, i assumed the MKVI is the same but maybe not.

Yeah, VW are conservative with their numbers, but 7.2 was the 'official' time.... Really, 1.2 secs faster to 60...?

I'd hope they'd feature the R in the next series.

^^^^^^^^I'd like to see that....

...As long as it was rising blue on black 19's...

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

Depends how it's tested I guess. Two fat blokes and a tank of petrol v's one skinny guy running on vapours might account for the difference.

There's hope for me yet, then!

I seriously question those figures.  :lipsrsealed:

I think they're probably close to correct as per the figures below.  I doubt you'd be in those gears, at those speeds, when setting a fast lap though (and would expect the GTD to suffer because of it)!

Regardless of figures, I'm sure we all agree that the GTD is faster.

This thread is just so childish.

It is, its also an Epic FAIL. I came on here and thought that this was crammed full of knowledgeable people. There are still some left, but boy is there a lot of them sh!tlisted blacklisted now after them trying to sell the GTD as being faster. Deluded people.

Probably a couple of people thought they may be faster than you (which we'll never know) - most people agreed that the GTI is some percentage faster overall.

I linked to the Autozeitung laptimes which suggested a Mk5 GTI may have been slower than a Mk6 GTD.  Probably a crap comparison but there aren't many other GTD laptimes to compare with unfortunately.

I don't actually care if a GTD is much slower but it should be based on fact rather than machismo...
