Oh good so the gti has even more power than they quoted
Evo Mag issue 139 quoted  our GTI engine chuck out 229bhp and 239ib of torque on their rollers. It was at least 40bhp less than the Megane or RS. They got the GTI 0-60mph in 6.4s, 0-100mph 16.5 seconds. Insisting a GTD is faster than a GTI is almost telling me my GTI is as fast as the Megane or RS. You can say 0-60mph depends a lot on traction, 0-100mph is the most important benchmark. I doubted the the GTD can duck under 20seconds which means it will trail at least 3.5second behind our GTI.

If the government introduce 60mph speed limt and digital camera on our motorway network , any debate who is faster will become irrelevant!

Sorry to generalise about diesel driver. I still insists most diesel driver believe their car can fly with a remap!!

most people think their car fly after a remap.  Diesel or not.

Nobody bit when I said about a shoot out.  Power readings and performance approximations are nothing more than cheap talk.
To do a comparison like this it HAS to be the same driver and preferably The Stig
why?  People are arguing about whether their car is faster than someone else's.  That takes their own skills into account as much as the car itself.

Come on boys...prove it or shut it!

A while back Fifth Gear they compared the Astra VXR with a diesel Astra with Triple Eight mods
surely others have seen this also?

Seems to me this GTI/GTD debate is the VW version of a VXR/888 debate.

If we put the Stig in both it is bye bye GTD...any day of the week...rain ore shine...

Closest thing to that I found was (positions 102 and 136) :-

1.5 seconds gap - not as much as I'd thought TBH...mind you, some odd other times so may not be totally reliable for message board Top Trumps!

interesting list....so the GTI is about 1.5% quicker than a GTD around a track....not much is it considering it is 40bhp more powerful , is lighter and uses about 35% more fuel...

There's no arguement though, the GTD is definately 'slower' than a GTI Mk6. According to the list the GTD is quicker than the Mk5 GTI..which is quicker than a mk5 Ed30..strange...

wtf you doing on a golfgti forum you boring square dicked cnut ?

Checking you're awake!

If you just said 'Track' rather than 'Road' I'd mostly agree with you - not boring in my world...square kn*b is a new one though!

Kev - a GTI is faster most of the time but not to the extent you seem to assume (having driven both).  Were you by any chance involved in a childhood accident involving a Diesel DSG Taxi?

Give me a couple of examples when a GTD faster than a GTI.

When you've stopped to fill up because you can't get more than 350 miles from a tank

I'll be way too far in front by then.

So let me get this right, a GTD is faster than a GTI ?

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

Thats depending on driver skill with a manual. Still closer then alot of people thought.
and hopefully you dont regually do 100mph to proove its quicker.

To do a comparison like this it HAS to be the same driver and preferably The Stig...no use getting different mortals to mess up the figures as stated by VW you simply have no reference anymore....suppose the DSG Driver cannot properly activate the launch control...or the Manual Muppet switches the clutch at the wrong revs...etc etc...

If we put the Stig in both it is bye bye GTD...any day of the week...rain ore shine...the good thing being that the looser can save a bit harder and trade his car in for the one he really wanted....

Right so we got myself and Erik knowing that a GTI is faster than a GTD. Looks like were on our own dude, all these other clowns think a GTD is faster

You've been arguing all day saying the GTD is faster now you have backtracked.
