I think a Manual GTi would struggle with a DSG GTD judging by those video's.

Very close indeed.

0-62 it would still beat a dsg gtd. 0-100 and on, it would have f**kin no chance.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

Thats depending on driver skill with a manual. Still closer then alot of people thought.
and hopefully you dont regually do 100mph to proove its quicker.

I would have thought so, but going through the ranges the gtd just doesnt have the torque, so as i said 0-62 reletively close, soon as you go faster the gti will always pull away and quickly, dsg or not.

The GTD is over £500 less than the GTI.
A Revo map is less than £500.
I think it is completely legitimate to compare a Revo'ed GTD and GTI.

We dont need proof that the GTD is slower than a GTI, we all know it.

If a standard GTI and standard GTD were racing from A to B on public roads it is the driver who will determine the winner ,not the car. Who really cares anyway, both a quicker than most cars, just that one is cheaper and more fuel efficent. But then again the GT140 is cheaper and more fuel efficent than the GTD. But then the 1.6 TDI is cheaper and more fuel efficent than the GT140.

We pay our money, we take our choice......blah blah blah.....

Sorry but thats wrong, its the traffic that will decide. On an open plain road, your comment is comical.

Kev, here's a real example for you.  Scunnthorpe to Cambridge, BMW 330Dvs A3 170D. The guy in the 330D is in a proper hurry sitting too close, over taking with little to no space etc etc, you know the type.
From the A15 to Lincoln, the A1 and then A14; by the time we got to my turn off 160 miles later I was just in front of him. The traffic obviously had an impact but the point I am making is that even if the GTD was quicker than a GTI (which it isnt) it doesnt necessarily mean that the slower car will get anywhere later just because the car is slower. You probably cant grasp this but hay ho.....your reply is comical too...seeing that you dont contest that a Revo'ed GTD vs GTI (£=£) is a fair comparison when earlier in the thread you did exactly that..........

Look at the number of TD cars on the right hand lane in our motorway, you sort of get the idea that most turbo diesel driver think their car got some supernatural acceleration over their petrol equivalent. This sunday when I took my 997C2S out for a spin, I was tailgated by a Vauxhall Insignia with a diesel badge proudly display at the rear end. (I let him past)

Used to see this argument over a few BMW forum as well---335i vs 335d

Let's compare the GTD and GTI assuming their gear ratio is similar

Higher power to weight ratio will always gives you better outright acceleration. Higher bhp, rev range and low drag will gives your petrol car a higher top speed. That's why your Gti can accelerate from 0 to 100mph under 16.5s and top out at 149mph. The 30-70mph thru the gears is very good--5.8seconds! The GTD will get slaughtered at Santa Plod or any cross country B-road race.

However, on normal roads, the only chance we can show off our car overtaking ability is overtaking a lorry who is travelling at 50mph. I bet the difference between the two is minimal. On a decent straight less than a qarter mile, I doubted a GTI will pull out any significant advantage over the GTD. If you look at the in-gear acceleration between a GTI and GTD in third 30-50mph, both cars can complete this in very similar time!

I think turbo diesel is a perfect way to get from A to B but I find the narrow rev range is a bit of a anticlimax! It also tends to weigh more than their petrol equivalent which means more understeer in a front drive car!

In my experience, a good driver with trackday experience is better than adding 50bhp to your car. One of my mate is an ex-rally driver. He drove round the Beford Autodrome circuit in his Cayman S quicker than some newbies in their 997 turbo. I can't get anywhere near him when we did a Cat and Fiddle run a few months back!

Could you show me where I did that ?

Have had my gtd remapped with revo and it pisses all over my sales managers mk6 gti. That said gti is fantastic car lovely note to the exhaust.

Your comparing a modified car to a standard ? Race a revo'd GTI then and It'll put your diesel back in its place.
