I think that it is ridiculous that VW still can't integrate an iPhone or Blackberry successfully with the RNS510. We have such strict rules concerning usage of mobile phones while driving that you'd think VW UK would be on top of this by now. I have already contacted Apple about this problem and I'm going to speak to VW UK about it tomorrow. I'll let you know how I get on.
What did Apple say?
I also filled in their feedback form and requested rSAP support but i doubt they will add it since it´s seems like a Nokia "thing"...

If only the EU version could work with the standard HPF (Hands Free Profile) that all phones support, cant belive VW could mess the bluetooth bit up so bad.
Must got a bribe from Nokia...

rSAP is technically superior (like the Germans :lipsrsealed:) but obviously hasn't been a big commercial success. Since Apple have been so overwhelmingly successful with the iphone VW need to junk it. They've probably signed up to it for 5 years or something.

That Mobridge solution looks promising and at £349 is priced the same as Fiscon. At least they bothered to get the right steering wheel buttons to work!

Here's the manual - can anyone with Fiscon tell us how it compares function-wise? http://www.mobridge-ipod.co.uk/_imgStoreVirt/resources/mObridge_BT_VW_Manual_V5.pdf

The decision not to facilitate Ipods would have been made a long, long time ago by the Mk6 product planners. There must be very good reason, in their minds. It's crazy, I would have happily paid the high list price to get full steering wheel functionality. Shame on the product planners.... I might go for a Mobridge if it has stering wheel functionality (the website doesnt mention anything on the subject, wich probably means it doesnt)...that or FISCON. Are their any other choices out there?

I sent an email to Apple about an hour ago. I guess it'll be a day or so before I hear back. When I've contacted them before, they've been very good at coming back with reliable answers. I wish i could say the same for VW UK.

MOBRIDGE sounds interesting. I'll check it out. Thanks for that, Mac7.

rSAP is a Nokia technology, which means Apple would need to pay for using it. Apple does everything in-house - apparently Steve Jobs is a MASSIVE control freak - so would not want to buy in someone elses tech. Especially Nokias. Plus, no one is going to give up their iphone just because it doesn't talk to their car - and Apple know that.

I'm getting concerned about Fiscon - I didn't realise you couldn't use the screen for " press 1 for " etc within calls. My local dealer ( Cartronics ) says mObridge has more usuability ie you can select any of your contacts numbers whereas ( he says ) with Fiscon you can only select the lead number in your contacts. He also says that firmware updates can be done at your dealer whereas Fiscon has to go back to Germany - again I don't know if this is true.

Fiscon has the ability to update the firmware. Not sure about multiple numbers under contacts.

Been Looking Through The mObridge manual and it looks like it fully supports the MFSW and the Iphone. Available from cartronics http://www.mobridge-ipod.co.uk/at £349.00 + Fitting.

User Manual :-

Looks a better option than the Fiscon unit or the VW unit to me

Audio streaming sounds poor in my opinion especially since the head unit has so many other ways to listen to music.
I've started leaving a card reader in the car so the kids can plug in their memory cards from their phone as the sound quality is far superior than streaming from the Fiscon Unit.

yeah your right, streaming aint really that much of a bonus.

the big, big bonus with the Mobridge is full control of the buttons on the streering wheel. I like buttons to do something...

glad to have found Mobridge.

Onlt other thing I'll need is a remap, I wont start looking for that til the car arrives..
