Clocks dont work.........
« on: 05 January 2010, 13:54 »
Ok i got my clocks plugged in and they light up, also the indicator tell tales work and the main beam light works, also the warning lights work (handbrake, charge, oil, coolant)

Now the two displays, mileage and time, dont work nor do the four dials.

everything else works fine. although also to note, the oil and coolant lights stay on permanently, even when the engine is on.

speedo wiring is plugged into the gearbox and tacho is wired to ecu; so it makes me think thats its some sort of bad earth is missing connection......

i got a pdf with a wiring diagram, its quite good but i cant really see the problem. any help would be much appreciated! i can email the diagram if need be.

thanks! :)

yeah checked fuses and fusebox wiring and nothing has gone or not connected. worked fine before i took my engine and then ever since it been like i described in the first post... will double check fuses again, but i have looked over them a lot.

i thought it might be something to with the oil pressure switch, as it aint wired in yet (at least i dont think it has??)

that wont make a difference if connected or not, these operate just like an on/off switch anyway

ahhh, then im out of ideas..... is there anything in the engine bay wiring that might have affected it you reckon? would it be worth trying a set of gti clocks out, as mine doesnt have a mfa?

thanks for your help :afro:

buggered if i can think of anything!  worth checkign all the jumper blocks above the fusebox, one o those may have popped out?  if you look up under the dash you'll see a load of 4 pin jumpery things with single wires going into them, im thinking maybe you've pulled a wire out here...

Use the wiring diagram and a multimeter and check every wire at the dash goes where it says it should. Work methodically from left to right on the diagram starting at T28/3 which should go to Terminal 31, (Chassis ground) and ending at T28/2 which should go to your coolant shortage switch.

going to give this a go. i guess all the spare wiring in the bay must be the problem/solution!
