I think its probably worth it if you need your 4 year / 40k (time and distance) service done as the cost of this one is approx £300 without the brake fluid change on its own.  If its just the inbetweeners that are going to be needing done then as others have said, it isn't.

Just had my 2nd service done on my ED30 @ my local VW dealer, I added the DSG oil change, all in for £392.

I thought the price was reasonable and In live in central London.

Just checked with local dealer - normal 20,000 mile service will be £170 so savings are quite small, don't think I'll bother, probably be able to call around & find a slightly cheaper price anyway

 thanks

 Simon

Ask for it to be put on Time/Distance service regime & then you'll get more value for money.......... I really do think that 18-20K service intervals are not good for a car.

^^^^^^^ Agreed. Use the search function on the Longlife Vs Time & Distance arguments.

GTI's should be on T&D. :afro:

Not too sure about that - I do around 16-18k miles a year... I think longlife is better for that kind of mileage

My previous BMW was serviced around every 18k miles and never missed a beat in the five years and 80k miles I owned her.

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

Having just done a little more digging around the www I found the service schedule for the GTI...

 http://www.vw.com/dealer/MaintenanceSchedulesQuery.do?year=2006&engineCode=2.0FSI&carModel=GTI%20FSI&TEMPLATENAME=maintenanceComplete&output=print

I only do around 9000 miles/yr so the services I'm likely to need which the £299 deal will cover are the 20k & 30k (T&D) - the 20k according to the schedule includes spark plugs/pollen filter & brake fluid. Assuming the deal covers the cost of these items (I'll be checking!!) then I guess the 20K service isn't going to be far off £250 making the deal pretty good (2yrs servicing + 1st MOT for £299)

Obviously I need to know exactly what is & isn't included for the £299, I'll let everyone know once I've checked with the dealer when I collect the car

I have done - and conclude that no one else on here does my kind of mileage, there is no way I am servicing my car every 5 months :D

A service every 16-18k miles I think is perfectly adequate for a modern day car.

In general, ok. Yes I agree with you about your car being on the LL regime. Others wouldn't...

Still, nice to provoke some debate, eh?

Indeed!

Of course - what would a forum be without some debate? :D
