mk3 Q's
« on: 02 January 2010, 19:04 »
ok just bought a 5dr mk3 gti and want to improve sounds, is it worth changing the rear speakers(which i take are in the doors?) or buy/make a stealth shelf and fit some 6x9's i do have some jbl 6x9's out of my mk2 which i had amped up and sounded good, but the shelf in the mk3 is already sagging and won't take the weight :( thoughts anybody

thanks in advance

Hi Mate,

I kept the original speakers in the back of mine when I had it and just added a sub, amp and a pair of 5.25" into a custom built side pocket for the boot........kept everything out of sight

yeah i'd recovered the shelf in my mk2 after i'd put the speakers in and screwed an amp underneath it, so if someone just looked thru the glass nothing was on show, so if i got a stealth shelf for the mk3 i'd do the same,

how much do you have to spend?

sub would be the way to go if you could.

Mine in the golf was a 10" sub which was quite punchy for rock/metal

I have a 12" in the Corrado and to be honest, it plays my tunes as good as the 10" but I am using 6x9's in the parcel shelf as well

you may be better off spending money on some components up front and amping these then.

I can happily listen to the music you listed above with the setup I listed above and miss neither 6x9's or a sub. A sub would be a nice addition at a later date if you wanted, just keep the level a bit lower or use a lower powered amp than for your fronts.
