Thanks for the feedback. It's good to hear from people who've owned both the mk4 and mk5.
What do you all think of a mk1 Leon Cupra instead of a mk4 GTI?
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3

Same faults but quicker in standard form

Just to add a few more faults which may be apparent, rear washer jet leaking and messing the boot handle up, brake light switched failed, rear heated screen wire snapped inside the boot and melted onto the washer pipe  :undecided: wishbone bushes wear quickly, electric mirror switch fell off, interior soft touch marks realy easy and can look tatty easily etc etc

It's a shame as I loved my mk4 and accepted all the little niggles at the time but looking back it was probably one of the most problematic cars I have ever owned.

Also dont expect to get any of the modding money back so in a few years time you'll have to find the cash to buy a new expensive car again!

The sensible answer is no, but at the age you are sensible is the last thing on your mind  so if you do it, make sure you have enough to remap and sort the suspension at least! Then save a few pennies for the window regulators/MAF

The trick is to find one that's already had all the usual faults fixed, there are lots of them around.. but the chassis is pants in comparison to the mk5

Unless you're chopping in for a 25th Anni or an R32, I'd keep hold of the Mk5
