What alarm?

I've got to get some thatcham approved security fitted to my car and I was wondering what to go for etc.
The company that herts insurance use quoted me ?389 for a cat1 system hooked up to the central locking. I didn't think to ask what make and if that was the fitted price.
Anyway I'm guessing that I will end up with a clifford or a cobra, ideally I only really want to spend upto ?300 fitted with it operating the central locking (I'm happy to add that feature myself at a later date if that's asking too much).
Anyway what system would anybody recommend and do you know anybody that can fit it at my workplace (cambridgeshire) for the price I want to pay?

All the new G5 Clifford stuff is out now, and its awesome.

I would spend what you have to, to get what you need. You've spent a long time looking for this car, and spent (without doubt) top money on it. For the sake of a couple of hundred quid you could have a brand new system that will protect your pride and joy, and you can rest easy.

I would give GAP security a call, tell them what you need, and let them recommend a system for you. The most you'll spend is ?450, and that will include someone travelling to your home or work to professionally install it.

This is only ?150 over what you ideally want to spend, which in the scheme of things is peanuts. Spend the extra and get the best.

I'll have a look at the G5 clifford stuff on the net and probably give GAP a call. You're right it's definately gonna be worth protecting so it'll cost what it has to cost.

I paid ?300 for a Cobra system that does the central locking. Thats all ya need.
I dont see the point in paying for THe Name. I know Clifford are supposed to be the best, but what more do ya get for your money?

If you look at the level of technology involved, Clifford alarms are considerably better than most others in the market place - All of their competitors are generally one generation of development behind. Clifford are the biggest/best for this very reason. Clifford are genuine innnovators in their field.

As an example, as far as I know, no other manufacture offers wireless modules, for untraceable/un-hackable installations, and this was their last generation stuff. There is a lot of hype that surrounds clifford stuff, and it is for good reason. Do all alarm manufacturers offer a lifetime warranty?

I wouldn't consider anything else for my own car, but as we all always say, each to their own, you pays your money, you takes your choice.

I have a Toad Ai606 cat 1 with remote locking and total closure.  I paid ?299 inc installation at my house.

Very good alarm, absolutely no problems so far (6 months), I would recommend one, also comes with lifetime gurantee.

However i agree with S11eps that clifford stuff is excellent, and you can get the remote start fitted which is possibly the best gimmick ever! 
Only problem with clifford alarms is many people report faults due to poor installation, get a recommended installer i.e GAP.

I decided that on a 8 year old standard car that i don't plan to keep for too long i couldn't justify paying any more than i did on an alarm.
