Car stalls while driving
« on: 22 December 2009, 22:33 »
My golf has recently started a new thing. I will be driving at 30-40mph through town and it stalls while driving. This happens on and off every few min. Especially great when the power steering locks!  It also idles and sometime stalls while idling. Rev counter will idle at 10 then drop off below moving up and down and stall if i dont give it power.  It starts up straight away and drives again only to repeat the process. Both while driving and idling. Please any advice appreciated.

Actually I'm sometimes experiencing the same thing, only my one stalls when idling, but it's fine when driving normally.

It doesn't stall every time I stop, but sometimes the revs start to drop, and unless I give it a gas, it's going to stall.

The air filter is clean, recently serviced it, so changed the oil, oil filter and spark plugs.

Would be interested what's the problem too.

Hi Chaps     Had this problem recently myself....changed my air filter, plugs and tested plug leads and coil pack, cleaned dizzy cap and rotor arm but still had problem. Removed and cleaned the throttle body and it's been fine since. Have you guys cleaned your throttle body??     Cheers    Deano

Thanks for that. Will try cleaning the throttle body and see if it makes any difference.

If cleaning the throttle body doesn't work try getting it plugged into vagcom

When I bought my car it kept stalling EVERY time I stopped, got my mechanic to plug it in and it showed up that the throttle position sensor and idle speed sensor were both screwed (both built into the throttle body). A second hand throttle body was put on and it's been perfect since :)

immobilizer?
You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.
