how much tread you got left on the tyres?

I have F1 Asys. Fronts are 3 months old. Rears are bit too worn for these conditions.

Handling is interesting to say the least at the moment, rear end being very lively!

Any normal tyre will be crap in Ice and Snow. You just have to drive according to the conditions.

Always had Continental Sport Contacts (latest iteration is "3") on mine - VWFS choice, not mine.

They seem pretty good.

Always understood that Michelin made the best tyres tho?

I've driven all sorts of vehicles in the snow.  The GTI was not too bad with the oem Bridgestones.  But these Goodyear horrors are just the pits.

Falken FK452's are also shyte in the snow.  I hate to say it but I had a lot less problems last winter in the snow with the Dunlop Sportmax  :embarassed:

That said I think the GTI is just generally poor in this sort of weather, been rocking the fiancee's 1.2 polo the last couple of days and the thing is like a sherpa.

I think its a bit silly to choose your tyre for just 4 days of the year when we have snow/ice. Why not either buy a set of snow tyres or buy some snow chains?

Anyway I have no issues with the F1 in these conditions, not less than any other tyre I've had on other vehicles.

The GSD3's are simply awesome in the wet - which quite frankly is 80% of weather we get in the UK.

People are specifying xenon lights to make driving safer at night, fair enough.  But for a lot of the year our nightime temperatures are below 6C.  Goodyear do not advise the use of the F1 summer tyre below 6C and, as was posted here, it drops to a one star out of five in the cold.

It makes sense to me to fit all season tyres that can cope with cold nights right through the year and cold days in winter.  Not to mention grip in snow.

The F1's are outside of their design envelope for much of the time in the UK

Only  if you drive in temperatures above 6C.  Below that Goodyear say you should NOT USE the F1's because they are dangerous.  So every night in Autumn, Winter and Spring and most Winter days too you are risking your life with the Goodyears.

All season is the way to go. (Those Sessantas mentioned are summer tyres, it's the Quatrac's that are all season)
