not had real problems with the golf but been borrowing my brothers corsa  this wknd + the locks were always frozen
answer: get a lighter+ heat up the metal key, if it doesnt work straight away, put the key half in the lock+ then heat the part left sticking out to transfer heat to the lock barrel, your in within seconds
not quite so helpful for non smokers though

yeah I used to commute in it when it was a 2.0 16v and whilst it was being converted to PD I started work in London either getting the train or biking in.  Again, I know I'm special.

Good way to bend your key i'd say doing that?

The frozen lock is the easy part for me, the hard part is having to wait 20 minutes for the dead-locks to un-freeze so i can get in the door! Had the door card off today and covered it in WD40, not convinced it will work but a matter off elimination!

Also diping your key into water before trying the barrel is surely going to make it worse in the long run as the moisture may linger there and freeze on another day, especially as the weather is staying cold it wont evaporate.

how the hell will i bend the key, where do i say that i put any force into turning the key? i just heat it for a few seconds until the ice melts+ it is just like normal.
I wonder sometimes whether people actually read posts or just think up imaginary things that they disagree with
no hard feelings just confused

calm down, i may have misunderstood, merely heating my key this morning wasnt enough to get into my car, it needed some force to turn and to actualy get the key into the lock... maybe your locks are not as frozen as mine,
