Are you sure it did not freeze solid Mate. Mine has frozen shut before but never to your extremes. I think other people on here have had the smae problem. The rubbers freeze and the door gets locked shut even though the lock is open. I have to give mine a couple of pulls from outside and then I am in. Touch wood I have not suffered bad this year yet!!!!!      Cheers      Deano

No it definatly wasnt frozen shut. it was something in the lock mechanism i guess. If you have ever dead-locked your door and try to use the handle and it just doesnt do anything and you can feel it doesnt even try the latch.

Used to be able to get a special lock de-icer, small can with a thin tube to push in the locks, will enquire next time I'm at the local VAG parts dept (picking up belts and G12+)...

ATM used WD40 but still froze overnight... had the Dead-lock issue at the folks last night took a few attempts to get in.. also suffered the frozen pin on passenger side, the other half had to travel back in the back with the baby (5-ddors!)

Try the old-skool (air-cooled) trick of smearing the door rubbers with some Vaselene see if that helps with sticking doors...

My boot lock seems not to have the little metal cover on it and is full of cr@p (washed a load out with WD last night) and this means I can't get a key all the way in it... :( Could this have come off or is it more likely just stuck in the open position?

Anyone got a guide to removing the locks (doors and boot) so I can give them a good greasing?

Bloody typical!!!!!  Went out to mine this morning and the drivers side door was froze solid. Pressed the button and the locks opened, pin went up and the door was solid as if locked. All other doors opened fine tryed from inside but no budging it. Warmed the car up a bit and after about half hour the door opened ok. I mainly have the frozen solid problem with my bootlid. Just a bit of frost and its solid whereas the doors are normally ok.

Spray a bit of WD40 on the locks and inside the lock like when you put your key in a bit spray a little in there, i did that almost 2 weeks ago and my locks havent frozen up once, and i live in canada ! lol

There was me thinking I was the only mk3 driver that was climbing in through windows on cold mornings!

I love hate it when my seals are frozen shut, and I have to climb in the back door over the seats to the driver's seat. Makes for amusing entertainment for any onlookers.
