Other than the hell that is ebay, where is a good place to buy classic car stereo headunits?

In my Rallye I have a Sony Mex-1HD which is a bonkers bit of kit (direct cd to hard drive ripping, wicked display etc) but it's just too modern looking for the car. For a while I had a Blaupunkt unit which was great for bluetooth phone link/usb playback etc but again, does not fit with the look of the car.

Alpine used to do units which matched the green VW dash a treat but nowadays they are too multicolour.

So what can I get? An older Alpine? Not too bothered about all the latest features, just normal cd playback and rca outs.

What I really want is the top model Pioneer from about '92 that my friend had in his beige Nova - happydays

ha yeah thought about both of those - the 77 is very nice but although it is very retro looking the colours are still way off.

maybe an old nakamichi would be cool, think the new ones just play on the old reputation.

looks a good option for new dan - how good is the green colour match to the dash lighting?

I'm going for this one...............Alpine CDE-101R

It's a Lower grade model compared to that of Dans but hopefully it will match the colour of the interior lights

If it were me I'd go for the Naka above as long as I could find some reviews. I reckon that would look really OEM in the MKII dash as it has a real 80's design to it.

its also worth looking into becker.

nak units are good, I wouldn't buy from there though personally, you may find you end up with something totally different if you buy from there.

I was gonna mention Becker but they are pretty expensive no?

The site for the Naka was just the first one that came up, I wasn't recommending anyone buy anything from there.

They are pretty expensive, £300 for a grand prix I think. Totally worth it though and IME unless you spend minimum 300 then sacrifices usually have to be made in one way or another, this is not always the case, but usually.

Every unit I have had for under 300 is no longer with us, I have had one for over 300 and I have had it well over 3 years with no fault/wearing buttons/failing display/CD rear problems, again there will be exceptions where expensive units are not worth the $$$.

nak have a good reputation and tend to be reliable.

yeah, you really wouldn't want to buy from CAC. Some people it works out fine for but not for many others.
